Paul F. McGinley

Developer

Hello, I’m Paul F. McGinley, a software developer from Scotland with a passion for technology that began at age 11, when I started creating software in C++ and Visual Basic. For many years, I balanced personal projects and open-source contributions alongside a regular job, where I handled software creation, administrative, and supportive roles. However, a few years ago, I decided to take my interest in development in a new direction—by going to college to learn game development, initially to create games for my kids.

Even though I’ve spent the past two years learning game development, I’m not entirely sure if I’ll pursue it as a career path. My main goal has been to fill some gaps in my skill stack, particularly in areas like graphics acceleration, moving beyond CPU-centric programming to understand GPU-powered solutions. Game development is an incredible field for this because it encompasses a broad range of software disciplines, from rendering and resource management to physics and even networking, an area I’m keen to explore further.

This journey has been both rewarding and challenging, helping me develop a deeper, more holistic understanding of software creation. Whether I move forward in game development or pivot into other areas, I’m excited to continue building, learning, and applying my skills wherever they’re needed.
